FIRST PROJECTS

First projects (low Budget)

Below you will find my first projects, which were all self-financed.

Project: MONO - the biodiversity in danger

MONO is a short film that deals with the inconspicuous monocultures right on our doorstep, because:

The term "monocultures" quickly conjures up images of huge wheat fields or palm oil plantations. But there are also monocultures that develop unnoticed on our doorstep. They have been created insidiously by the intensification of agriculture to feed our livestock. We are talking about rich pastures. In spring, they often shine with flowering dandelions and buttercups. But appearances are deceptive, because all the blossoms of these few robust plants mean that no other plant species can assert themselves. For where, for example, are the orchids, the irises and the marsh gentian? And where are the wild bees, skylarks, grasshoppers, field hamsters and bumblebees? We are experiencing the biggest mass extinction since the end of the dinosaurs, right on our doorstep. And we are the only ones who can stop it - even quite easily. Niklas Weber's new short film "MONO - biodiversity in danger" deals with just that.

Project: "Chasing Wildlife" and "Canada - in search of the legendary coastal wolves"

With the short film ‘Chasing Wildlife’ and my live talk ‘Canada - in search of the legendary coastal wolves’, I want to bring my fascination and enthusiasm for the wild world closer to people - and not just my enthusiasm for the cute little fox pup, but also for the sometimes so misunderstood wolf, which has still filled a large part of the local media content since it returned to Germany in 1996 (the year I was born).

I travelled to the west coast of Canada to the Great Bear Rainforest at the age of 22 to fulfil a childhood dream.
I spent a total of four months exploring the unique ecosystem in my small inflatable boat with an outboard motor and a tent. During this time, I encountered some of the largest and most impressive animals the world has to offer, such as killer whales, humpback whales, sea eagles, coastal wolves, black bears, otters and many more fantastic animals! These included unique encounters that I could never have dreamed of! I also dived with countless sea lions, who had at least as much fun diving with me as I did with them, and documented the countless anemones, soft corals and sponges with my camera. Sometimes there are so many that there is not a single open space left on a rock.

I also got to know the First Nation people and even had the honour of photographing a so-called potlatch, which is normally strictly forbidden as it is a very important celebration and tradition of the First Nation people. A potlatch is only held very rarely, it requires an important occasion, as in this case when Elroy White took over the office of Chief from his father. These experiences had a huge impact on me and are still with me today.

Project: Costa Rica - Paradise between two continents

Costa Rica - my first big project. I still remember that time very well. The project started in 2016 and it taught me a lot. But despite my first big project, it was very successful: with my live talk ‘Costa Rica - Paradise between two continents’, I gave over 29 talks throughout the German-speaking world, some of them in front of an audience of over 600.

This live talk focusses on the nature and wildlife of Costa Rica, the fragile ecosystems and the warm-hearted Ticas and Ticos, the locals.
